Caitlin Clark's latest masterpiece put her in a class with LeBron James

Clark received a pass from forward Hannah Stuelke and moved to her right before dribbling back to her left, separating from Michigan State guard Moira Joiner. She then launched the deep three from the tip of the Hawk's beak. 

While the Peacock broadcast's clock showed the timer hit zero before Clark released the shot, this photo clearly shows the ball out of her hands before the red lights lit up on the backboard.

Clark finished the game with 40 points, giving her four consecutive games of at least 35 points. This season, Clark is averaging 31.5 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 7.4 assists per game. 

OptaStats listed her impressive numbers through 15 games, which also includes Iowa's .933 win percentage, noting that only Lakers forward LeBron James, the NBA's all-time leading scorer, put up similar numbers over a 15-game span in the last 25 years among all NBA, WNBA or Division I men's or women's basketball players.

Clark has been even better this season than in her first three seasons in Iowa City. She's averaging a career-high in points and shooting the highest percentage (48.7 percent) in her four seasons with the Hawkeyes.

Former Washington and current Aces guard Kelsey Plum holds the record for most career points (3,527) in women's college basketball, which Clark is only 339 points shy of surpassing. With 15 regular season games remaining, Clark needs to average 22.5 points per game to move into first place by the start of the Big Ten tournament.

She's also within distance of Pete Maravich's DI all-time scoring record (3,667 points), which Clark could surpass during the conference tournament in early March if she maintains her 2023-24 scoring pace.

As impressive as Clark's storied career is already, she has plenty of time to add to its lore.
