James Forrest as we know is nearing the end of his Celtic career and is unfortunately past his peak.

He is however a true professional who gives his all and can still be called upon to play his part. That has been evident in the past few games when he has shown his ability and experience when coming off the bench.

It’s been said that Brendan Rodgers blundered by overlooking James and bringing on Yang in the Glasgow Derby draw at Ibrox. James’ experience could have seen us dig out a result, but I guess we’ll never know.

What we do know however is that James performs well in the big games, especially at Hampden and against today’s opponents Aberdeen. James has scored on numerous occasions at the national stadium, in cup finals and semi finals, international games. James is a man for the big occasion, so it’s not the wildest of ideas to suggest he’s worth a start today.

With Daizen Maeda out for the rest of the season there’s another spot out wide up for grabs. Of course Luis Palma and Yang will naturally be ahead of James in the pecking order, but it’s definitely worth pondering starting a man as experienced and talented as James.

Yang did his own selection chances no favours last weekend when he was extremely poor against St Mirren especially in that frustrating first half. He was eventually pulled off by Brendan and Luis Palma made a welcome return from injury. Is he fit enough to start?

The Honduran is the most likely of the three to get the nod with Jamesy probably coming off the bench. However the veteran winger, who is in his testimonial year at Celtic, can play on both wings and it isn’t the maddest idea to consider giving him an unexpected start at the national stadium.
